The government had earlier used DNA system tohelp identify victims of the recent riots in Urumqi and trace kidnapped childrenbut its use on entertainment workers has created a storm. Questions are beingraised on whether the authorities should interfere with the privacy of citizenson the assumption that they might be involved in criminalactivity. Authorities in the Baiyun entertainment district ofGuangzhou have begun to conduct DNA tests and take fingerprint photographs andhandwriting samples of 4233 workers engaged in entertainment business. The testwill help clear those employees without any criminal background officialssaid.

html Shanghai August 14 (Gasgoo. com) Italian automaker Fiat Spa recently saidthat its joint venture with China’s Guangzhou Auto will start producing andselling Fiat vehicles in 2011 reported Shanghai Securities News today. The Guangzhou-Fiat joint venture project is expected to get China’sregulatory approval later this month and construction on the project isscheduled to last one year and a half. The venture may start production andsale of Fiat vehicles by the second half of 2011. Fiat signed an agreement on July 6 with China’s state-owned GuangzhouAutomobile Group Corp. to produce cars in a joint venture which will havean investment of 400 million euros ($556 million). Sources revealed thatbesides the Linea model Alfa Romeo and other Fiat models may be built inthis Chinese venture.
