High-power LEDs provide high-efficiency and eco-friendly lighting that consumes less power compared with conventional general illumination sources. For this reason high-power LEDs are increasingly being used as general illumination in homes commercial establishment vehicles and public areas—for both functional and decorative purposes. China companies such as Guangzhou Hongli pto-electronic Co. Ltd believe that the energy-saving ?green? characteristics of high-power LEDs will drive the development of the segment. Guangzhou Hongli predicts that strongest growth will be evident in products applied in the general illumination of roadsides or streets and automotive and indoor lighting. The development of China?s high-power LED segment is in step with the global pace albeit not as strong as that for LEDs with lower power ratings. High-power LEDs comprised 15 percent of the aggregate LEDs produced in 2008 according to the Taiwan Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK).
