The statement dated March 14 quoted a report from the country’s embassy in Beijing saying that a total of 16 Filipinos have been arrested for suspected drug trafficking in China over the past months this year. The suspects were arrested in Guangzhou Xiamen Shanghai Hong Kong and Macao in different cases. Philippine Ambassador to China Sonia C. Brady said that the arrest of 16 Filipinos as of March 11 is “very alarming. ” It “indicates that drug syndicates continue to recruit Filipinos as drug couriers unhampered” she added. The envoy appealed to Filipinos “to heed the Philippine government’s numerous warnings and not allow themselves to be used as drug couriers by drug syndicates.

According to the report the practice in its more gruesome-sounding forms involves either forcing water into the stomachs of pigs and cattle shortly before slaughter or injecting water into the hearts of recently slaughtered animals so that the water will quickly flow into the animals? flesh through the blood vessels.
