The fire started about 10:20 am (0220 GMT) but was extinguished within 20 minutes according to a report on the website of the Guangzhou Daily. A fire department official in the city told AFP by phone that firefighters had been sent to the scene. The official said no reports of casualties had been received. A saleswoman at the 25-floor Fuli Yingtai office building where the fire occurred said it was quickly put out.

21 (Xinhua) — A senior military officer of China has called for the country’s armed forces to show obedience to the Communist Party as the country faces severe economic challenges and new situations in national security. Guo Boxiong vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) made the call during a recent inspection tour in Guangzhou capital of southern Guangdong Province. Given the country’s severe economic challenges and new security situations the military forces should foster the core values of “be loyal to the Party love the people serve the nation be devoted to the mission and worship glory” he said. The core values were underscored by President Hu Jintao who is also CMC chairman at the end of last year. All military forces should unify their will to the decision and deployment of CMC and make sure they uncompromisingly obey the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee CMC and its Chairman Hu Jintao’s command under any circumstances Guo said.

The company started selling 150 detached and semidetached houses in a luxury villa project in Shunyi District Beijing in the second half of last year and expects to sell anther 250 units this year which is estimated to raise as much as RMB 2 billion. The average price of the houses is set at RMB 20000 to RMB 250000 per square meter. Mixed-use buildings in Guangzhou and Shanghai are scheduled to be put on sale in 2010 or 2011.
