The airport at Guangzhou capital of Guangdong expects to handle 31 million passengers throughout 2007 said Liu Zijing president of Guangdong Airport Management Corp. “With the volume of passengers exceeding 30 million the airport is expected to be ranked among the top 30 air hubs in the world” Liu said. According to China’s civil aviation authority the Pudong airport in Shanghai was China’s second largest airport in terms of passenger volume in 2006.

Many Korean companies have abruptly shut down and left the country due to growing business difficulties in China. The Ministry of Commerce Industry and Energy will work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade the Ministry of Labor the Ministry of Justice and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry to form a joint task force to stem the tide of Korean companies fleeing China. The on-site inspections will be focused in Chinese cities that are popular with Korean firms including Qingdao and Guangzhou. The measure comes after some Korean companies have caused troubles by trying to secretly close their businesses and exit the country without paying taxes and wages. The Korean management of one such company was detained by angry Chinese workers in Chongming Shanghai last month. In another case a medium-sized Korean company in Qingdao Shandong Province pulled a “moonlight flight” without paying its Chinese workers. Korean investment in China this year amounted to US$21.

China unveils new 300-km-per-hour bullet train

“China has joined an elite world club after Japan France and Germany to become the fourth country capable of turning out such high speed trains” said Wang Yongping a Ministry of Railways spokesman. Previously China’s fastest self-developed trains ran at a service speed of up to 250 km per hour. Those trains which debuted on April 18 serve the Beijing-Harbin Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Guangzhou routes. Foshan city government has given top priority to the development of the financial industry.
